The Majority of Young People Are Experiencing Anxiety Due to AI Threats at Work

  • 51% of adults in Great Britain are concerned about AI
  • 62% of young people aged 25-34 express anxiety
  • TUC calls for active measures to protect jobs

According to a new survey, more than half of adults in Great Britain are concerned about the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on their jobs. The survey, conducted by the Trades Union Congress (TUC), found that 51% of working adults are worried about the possibility that AI could take their jobs or change them beyond recognition.

In particular, a high proportion of young people aged 25-34, where 62% of respondents expressed their anxiety. These results indicate that the issue is a pressing concern for a broad spectrum of political views, particularly among Labour, Conservative, and Reformist party supporters, who also expressed concern.

Well-known companies, such as BT, Amazon, and Microsoft, have previously stated that the development of AI could lead to a rapid reduction in jobs. The TUC urges the government to take steps to prepare for rapid technological changes, including investing in skills training and education for workers.

Experts note that the impact of AI on the labor market will be uneven, with routine administrative roles and some digital services facing the largest risk, while demand is expected to grow in technical, engineering, and specialized professions.

According to TUC, without responsive actions, the UK risks a "sudden" transition to a labor market dominated by technology, but without necessary protections for workers. Projections indicate that in the next decade, the private sector could see a loss of anywhere from one to three million jobs, while the overall unemployment rate, by estimates, will be within a few percentage points of thousands.

The leader of the Labour Party, Sir Keir Starmer, previously announced a 50-point plan for AI in Great Britain, emphasizing the importance of adapting to the technological revolution.
