In New York, Coco Gauff is aiming to refine her serve during the US Open, which has become a challenge for her. She is collaborating with former world number one Arina Sabalenka's coach, Gavin McMillan, who previously helped world number one Arina Sabalenka.
Gauff admitted that her attempts to correct her serve during matches are "mentally exhausting." In the first round, she played against Alja Tomljanovic, winning with a score of 6-4, 6-7 (2), 7-5, while she recorded 10 double faults, which became a significant challenge in the game.
Gauff noted that she wants to avoid falling back into old habits during critical moments, which she believes is moving in the right direction thanks to working with McMillan. She has been focusing on intense training, refining her serve, and believes it is important not to revert to old habits in critical moments.
During the match, Gauff aimed to serve more powerfully to concentrate on a new technique; for instance, her average serve speed in the first sets was 88 miles per hour, while in the third set it was 101 miles per hour. She is confident that she can improve her game if she continues to work on these adjustments.
