Immigrant Abreo Garcia Wants to Reapply for Asylum
- Garcia plans to reapply for asylum in the USA.
- The federal judge has blocked his deportation until July.
- Advocates argue that deportation would pose threats in Uganda.
Immigrant Abreo Garcia, who has become a symbol of the harsh immigration policies of the Donald Trump administration, intends to reapply for asylum in the USA. This was reported by his advocates in court on Wednesday, September 27, 2025.
Garcia, 30 years old, was arrested in Baltimore on September 25, 2025, by the immigration and customs enforcement service after exiting a detention center in Tennessee. The administration claims that he is part of the dangerous MS-13 gang, allegations that Garcia denies.
Garcia's advocates are seeking to challenge the ruling regarding his deportation, asserting that he has the right to protection from persecution and violence in Uganda. Should he be deported, Garcia has expressed a desire to travel to Costa Rica.
In 2019, his application for asylum was denied due to a late submission, but the court issued a ruling that blocked his deportation to El Salvador due to real threats of violence from gangs. Garcia had been released under federal supervision and lived with his family in Maryland until 2025, when he was deported to a dangerous area in El Salvador.
The deportation violated a court order, and his attorney filed a lawsuit for the return of the individual. Under pressure and the ruling of the U.S. Supreme Court, the Trump administration returned Garcia to the USA in June, but he was charged with allegations in a counterclaim against people.
Currently, Garcia has again expressed a desire to reopen his immigration case in Maryland and submit an asylum application.
The federal judge has blocked Garcia's deportation until the beginning of July, indicating a hearing on June 6, where the testimony of representatives of the Trump administration regarding the attempt for a second deportation is planned.
