Meta is preparing to release a new line of smart glasses under the name Hypernova, which may be announced in March. These glasses will cost around $800, which is $200 less than previously expected.
Hypernova will distinguish itself from previous Meta Ray-Ban models by adding an augmented reality display in the right lens, which will only be visible to the wearer. On this display, users will be able to see mini-apps and notifications, controlled by the accompanying neural bracelet.
The glasses may also have a camera that provides image quality on par with modern smartphones. Experts believe that Hypernova could compete with regular mobile phones, although for now they are not a standalone device.
It is expected that Meta aims to reduce the price of the new glasses through a decrease in manufacturing costs. However, even with a lower price, buyers may need to pay extra for prescription lenses or stylish variations.
In addition, it is anticipated that at the Meta Connect conference on March 17, the company will also present an updated version of Meta Ray-Ban, which may include enhanced features such as extended battery life and the ability to capture horizontal photos.
