Washington (AP) — Federal prosecutors were unable to obtain charges against a man who assaulted a sandwich at a customs agent in the capital, sources familiar with the situation reported.

Shawn Charles Dann was arrested for assault after he threw a sandwich at a customs agent. The video of the incident went viral, and shortly after this he was released from the Department of Justice, where he worked as a specialist in international affairs.

This case is one of the examples of legal support to strengthening civil rights organizations during Donald Trump's presidency, which resulted in nearly 1000 arrests. The refusal of a large jury to indict is a rare occurrence.

The arrest occurred at the beginning of Trump's declaration on September 11, which anticipated the activation of federal agents in Washington. Along with the police protocol, Dann approached a group of CBP agents, pointed at the agent, and called him a "fascist." The video captured the moment when Dann threw the sandwich at the upper part of the agent's body.

Human rights defenders noted that Dann attempted to attack, but was arrested.
