KANSAS CITY, Missouri. — Wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, Rashee Rice, received a six-game suspension from the NFL for participating in DUI, which will take effect in early 2024. Gerald, close to the team, reported that the suspension will begin with the first week of the season.
Rice, 25 years old, was sentenced to five years of probation and 30 days of house arrest following his admission of guilt in two felony third-degree offenses. Police reports indicate that he was driving at a speed of 119 miles per hour in a Lamborghini Urus before crashing into a barrier, which triggered a multi-car reaction on the highway in Dallas. Rice also failed to provide insurance information and fled the scene of the accident.
In a statement from his attorney, Roys Uesta, Rice noted that he is experiencing the consequences of his actions. Under the terms of a plea agreement with the Dallas County prosecutor's office, he is required to pay restitution to all victims in the amount of $115,481.91.
However, one of the attorneys from one of the victims stated that Rice has yet to pay the agreed million dollars due to the aftermath of the civil lawsuit.
Rice was the second pick for the Kansas City team in the 2023 draft. In the previous season, he recorded 24 receptions for 288 yards with two touchdowns, before suffering a knee injury. He became the leading receiver for the team, finishing the season with 79 receptions for 938 yards.
The suspension of Rice means that he will miss several important games, including a game against the LA Chargers in Brazil and a rematch with the Philadelphia Eagles.
