Increase in Russian Military Attacks and Their Losses in Ukraine
- Russian forces have increased the use of armored vehicles in attacks.
- On the last day, the Russians lost 1,000 soldiers and equipment.
- The total losses of Russia since the beginning of the war have exceeded 1 million soldiers.
This is reported by RBC Ukraine, Ukrayinska Pravda, RBC Ukraine.
Recently, Russian forces have significantly increased the use of armored vehicles in tactical attacks on the front, reports the Institute for the Study of War (ISW). Earlier, in the winter of 2024-2025, their usage was reduced. Since April, they have not conducted mechanized assaults at the level of a platoon or larger, predominantly relying on motorcycles and buggies.
According to ISW data, since the beginning of July 2025, Russian forces have begun to conduct a series of small mechanized attacks in the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions. Analysts note that Russia has temporarily reduced the use of tanks and armored vehicles over the past six months, but is gradually improving the capabilities with the repair of Soviet-era armored vehicles.
Currently, according to the data of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on July 28, 2025, the Russian army lost another 1,000 soldiers, as well as over 340 units of equipment and military technology. The total combat losses of the RF since February 24, 2022, amount to approximately 1,050,250 military personnel.
According to the data, on the day between July 27 and 28, Russian forces lost another artillery system and one installation of reactive artillery (MLRS). Across the entire front, there were 118 combat engagements and over 5,000 attacks against the enemy.
According to analysts, the increased use of armored vehicles may indicate attempts by Russian forces to exploit weak points in the Ukrainian defense, particularly in the air defense system. These actions could be part of new tactical concepts or experiments aimed at increasing the level of acceptable risk regarding losses of armored vehicles.
