The Head of the Shaolin Monastery in China Under Investigation for Crimes

  • Shi Yongxin is under investigation for alleged corruption.
  • The Shaolin Monastery has a history spanning over 1500 years.
  • Shi has previously faced accusations, but he has been cleared of wrongdoing.

The head of the famous Shaolin Monastery, Shi Yongxin, is under investigation for alleged embezzlement, "improper relationships with several women" and "the illegal adoption of children." This was reported last week by representatives of the monastery.

Shi, who has headed Shaolin since 1999, has built a global brand for the monastery through extensive promotion. Under his leadership, schools have been opened outside of China, and a martial arts ensemble has been created that demonstrates Shaolin kung fu.

The monastery, which has existed for over 1500 years, is located in central China in Henan province. Shi has become known as the "CEO of the monks" due to his entrepreneurial skills.

The investigation involves several departments, and more information will be disclosed in due course. Shi has also faced criticism for his relationships with women and for accepting gifts from companies.

In 2015, he was already involved in similar accusations, but that case was closed due to a lack of evidence. After that, Shi continued to engage in promoting the Shaolin brand, which has generated significant media attention among followers.
