In Ukraine, forest fires continue, 17 people killed
- 17 people have died due to forest fires in Turkey.
- The fires engulfed 3000 hectares of forest around Bursi.
- The government declared a state of emergency in two provinces.
In Turkey, as a result of forest fires that broke out in the Bursi region, 17 people have died since June 1. According to reports, two volunteer firefighters were injured in the hospital after they were pulled from a water tanker that overturned during their escape from the fire.
The fires engulfed over 3000 hectares of forest around Bursi, prompting the evacuation of over 3500 people. Among the deceased are 10 firefighters who died as a result of the fires in Eskishehir.
The Minister of Rural Development and Forestry of Turkey, İbrahim Yumaklı, reported that in the country, 76 separate fires have been recorded, of which 28 occurred in forests. High temperatures, dry conditions, and strong winds have contributed to the spread of the flames.
The government declared a state of emergency in two western provinces, Izmir and Bilecik. Law enforcement has initiated criminal proceedings against 97 individuals in 33 provinces related to the fires.
On Sunday evening in the village of Harmanchik, there was a gathering of people demanding the release of a suspect detained by law enforcement.
