Lithuanian military intercepts a drone from Belarus

  • The drone entered the airspace of Lithuania from Belarus.
  • The authorities urged residents not to approach suspicious objects.
  • The Minister of Defense indicated that weather conditions favor the launch of drones.

This is reported by RBC Ukraine, Meduza.

On July 28, an unidentified drone was detected in the airspace of Lithuania, which likely entered from the territory of Belarus. According to reports, the drone was spotted at an altitude of about 200 meters near Vilnius.

Lithuanian authorities do not rule out the possibility that this could be a drone, but emphasize that the situation is under control, and all emergency services are on standby. The object was detected around 8:00 AM. Searches for possible landing sites or the drone itself, which could have made an emergency landing, are ongoing.

Local authorities have urged residents not to approach unidentified objects linked to the drone and to report them by calling emergency services at 112.

Comments from the Minister of Defense of Lithuania

Defense Minister Arvydas Anušauskas stated that the type of drone has not yet been identified. He noted that weather conditions are favorable for the launch of drones, which are sometimes used for reconnaissance of goods.

Anušauskas also reminded that on July 10, Lithuanian forces already intercepted a similar airspace violation — an unidentified drone similar to the Iranian Shahed was detected. Previous assessments indicate that the drone could have been launched from the territory of Russia for testing the readiness of the Baltic states' systems.

Earlier, the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, reported that a Russian military drone crashed in eastern Latvia. An investigation into this incident is currently ongoing.

Moreover, according to Ukrainian military data, on September 7-8, a Russian drone crossed the territory of Romania from the Odessa region of Ukraine. During this time, residents of Romanian districts bordering Ukraine received reports about a possible falling object.
