Ukraine receives Azerbaijani gas through a new route

  • Naftogaz signed an agreement with SOCAR for gas supply.
  • The first gas deliveries will be carried out via the Trans-Balkan corridor.
  • This is a step towards diversifying energy supply in Ukraine.

This is reported by Interfax Ukraine, Ukrayinska Pravda.

Naftogaz of Ukraine signed an agreement with SOCAR Energy Ukraine for the import of natural gas from Azerbaijan. This is the first agreement concluded with SOCAR that allows for testing the gas supply through the Trans-Balkan corridor.

The first gas deliveries have already taken place via routes in Bulgaria and Romania to the border with Ukraine. Although the volumes are currently small, this step is considered significant for ensuring the energy security of the country.

The General Director of Naftogaz, Serhiy Koretskyi, noted that this agreement opens up opportunities for long-term cooperation and diversification of energy supplies. He also emphasized the importance of Azerbaijani partners for trust.

Gas transportation operators from Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine have jointly developed a supply route to Ukraine through the Trans-Balkan corridor, proposing package production for gas delivery in the period from June to July 2025.
