The Government of Pakistan Eliminated Three Militants Linked to the Attack on the Chinese

  • Pakistani security forces eliminated three militants in Karachi
  • One detained militant leader is linked to the attack on the Chinese
  • In Tirah, seven people were killed during a protest against violence

In the Pakistani city of Karachi, during a nighttime operation by security forces, three suspected militants were killed, who are accused of being involved in an attack that occurred in the autumn of 2024, resulting in the deaths of two Chinese nationals who worked at a textile factory.

According to information provided by Azad Khan, the senior official of the Department for the Fight Against Terrorism, among the deceased was likely the mastermind of the attack, known as Zafran. He is a member of the Pakistani Taliban, known as Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which is an affiliate of the Afghan Taliban, which seized power in Afghanistan in 2021.

China has repeatedly urged Pakistan to enhance security for its citizens, who are involved in major infrastructure projects under the multi-billion dollar initiative "CPEC," which includes roads, railways, and electricity. Chinese nationals are increasingly becoming targets for militants, including TTP and the banned group Pakistan's army, which has also been designated a terrorist organization by the U.S.

Pakistan promised to strengthen security measures for Chinese workers, including those working in private factories.

Meanwhile, in the Tirah area, located in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, there was violence, resulting in the deaths of at least seven people. According to local official Fiaz Khan, the violence erupted when dozens of residents gathered near a military camp to demand protection and justice following the murder of a child as a result of a shooting incident.

Local residents assert that the military opened fire when some of them began throwing stones at the camp, but police have yet to establish which bullets were fired, which specifically caused the fatalities. It was also reported about shooting from nearby hills, and police suspect that TTP may have been involved in the shooting to incite conflict between residents and the military.

The government has started an investigation into the killings of the demonstrators.
