Cambodia and Thailand have reached an agreement on "urgent and unconditional ceasefire," which will take effect simultaneously with local time, reported Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. This occurred after days of clashes on the disputed border between the two countries.
The meeting between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and his Thai counterpart Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha took place in Putrajaya, not far from the capital Kuala Lumpur. According to official sources, as a result of the recent clashes, at least 35 people were killed, and around 200 were injured.
Both sides blamed each other at the beginning of the conflict. Malaysia, which acted as a mediator in the negotiations, announced that regional commanders from Cambodia and Thailand would meet on July 29 to discuss further steps.
This conflict has been ongoing for several decades and has deep roots in the history of the disputed territories.
