Aeroflot Cancels Flights Due to Hacker Attack

  • Aeroflot canceled 49 flights due to a hacker attack.
  • The hackers destroyed a significant part of the IT infrastructure of the airline.
  • Earlier, major disruptions had already occurred in Russian airports.

This is reported by RBC Ukraine, Meduza.

On July 28, 2025, operations at Russia's largest airline Aeroflot experienced significant disruptions, leading to the cancellation of numerous flights. According to information from the Russian news resource Baza, a group of hackers under the name Silent Crow, along with Belarusian Cyber Partisans, claimed responsibility for the attack.

As a result of the disruptions, at least 49 flights were canceled from Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport. Among the canceled flights were routes to Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, Stavropol, Minvod, as well as several flights to St. Petersburg and international destinations, such as Minsk and Yerevan.

At the terminals of the airport, large queues of passengers formed. The official version of the airline indicates a technical failure in its information systems, but the hackers claim they managed to destroy Aeroflot's IT infrastructure. They reported that the operation lasted almost a day and included penetrating the corporate network of the company.

The hacker group claims to have destroyed nearly 7,000 physical and virtual servers, as well as gained access to databases that contain records of flight histories and internal phone conversations. At this moment, official confirmation of the hackers' involvement is absent, but speculation about possible hacker participation is spreading in the Russian information space.

Disruptions in Russian Airports

Earlier, on July 5-6, major disruptions also occurred at three of Russia's largest airports, resulting in the airline potentially losing over 250 million dollars. Moscow's Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported that the airlines were operating in a state of chaos and were experiencing issues with their IT systems.
