On July 28, 2025, in the Hall of Fame of Baseball in Cooperstown, New York, the ceremony for the induction of Ichiro Suzuki took place. He became the first Japanese player selected for this honorary institution. In his speech, which lasted 19 minutes and was primarily in English, Ichiro stated: "This is a fantastic dream."
Ichiro, the son of Nobuyuki Suzuki, has been involved in baseball since childhood. He began his career in Japan, playing for the Orix BlueWave, where he became the highest-paid player. In 2001, he became the first Japanese player to enter MLB, joining the Seattle Mariners.
In his debut season, he amazed everyone, showing impressive results: a batting average of .350, 242 hits, 127 runs, 58 stolen bases, and 68 RBIs. He received the Rookie of the Year and MVP awards, becoming only the second player in history to achieve such success. Over 12 seasons in Seattle, he set numerous records.
After moving to the New York Yankees in 2012, Ichiro continued to demonstrate consistency, achieving 4000 hits at the professional level. It is evident that his career could pave the way for the next Japanese player, Shohei Ohtani, who also has a great chance of getting into the Hall of Fame in the future.
