On Monday, July 28, 2025, a fire broke out in a vacation home for people with disabilities in the Charente region of France. The fire started around 4:30 AM, destroying part of the building in Montmore. As a result of the incident, three individuals died, one person suffered serious injuries, and two individuals are considered missing without a trace.

Approximately 80 firefighters and two dozen fire engines were on the scene, trying to extinguish the blaze. The fire destroyed parts of the house, engulfing the surrounding area. Rescue services did not find any traces that would indicate that the missing individuals managed to escape from the fire, reported Jean-Charles Jobart, the general secretary of the Charente prefecture.

He noted that, most likely, the missing individuals remain under the rubble. The causes of the fire are still being investigated, but it is presumed that it was accidental.
