EU Discovers Violations by Temu Regarding the Sale of Unsafe Products

  • Temu is accused of selling unsafe products in the EU.
  • The European Commission has launched an investigation into the platform.
  • Violations could result in significant fines.

The European Commission has found that the Chinese online platform Temu inadequately protects consumers from the sale of illegal products. In its press release dated July 28, 2025, the Commission stated that there is a high risk that users in the EU may encounter unsafe products on the platform.

Temu falls under the designation of "very large online platforms" according to the Digital Services Act (DSA), which requires the largest tech companies to implement measures to protect European consumers. The investigation, initiated in July 2024, revealed that Temu supplies products that do not comply with EU standards.

Among the main findings of the Commission are the promotion of fake discounts, publication of misleading reviews, and lack of information about sellers. Temu has the opportunity to respond to these allegations, but in the event of confirmed violations of EU law, fines may be imposed. DSA violations could result in fines of up to 6% of the company's annual global revenue.
