At a press conference in Scotland, an important meeting took place between UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and US President Donald Trump, which addressed the conflict in Gaza and the issue of recognizing Palestine. Trump stated that the US is ready to support the recognition of Palestine as a state, which is a significant change in his policy.

President Trump expressed disagreement with the assessment of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who denies the existence of a genocide in Gaza, stating that "photographs do not lie." He emphasized that resolving the humanitarian crisis is his priority. This is a substantial departure from the previous absolute support of the Israeli government.

Starmer, on the other hand, is under political pressure from his colleagues, who are pushing for the recognition of Palestine. More than 250 members of parliament from nine political parties support this decision. However, in his cabinet, there is a split, where some members advocate for early recognition, while others are opposed.

In addition, the meeting also touched on the war in Ukraine, where Trump gave Putin a term of 10-12 days to resolve the conflict or face new sanctions. This aspect underscores the complexity of international relations, in which the UK plays a significant role.

Starmer hopes to leverage this opportunity to improve trade relations between the UK and the US, particularly in reducing tariffs on British exports.
