Valentyna Matviyenko is being summoned to court, not to the conference in Switzerland
- Georgiy Tikhiy called for excluding the Russian representative from Matviyenko.
- Matviyenko supported Russia's invasion of Ukraine at the conference.
- Olena Kondratiuk called the participation of the Russian representative at the conference hypocritical.
This is reported by Ukrinform, Interfax Ukraine, Interfax Ukraine.
The spokesperson of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Georgiy Tikhiy, emphasized that Matviyenko should be in court, not at international conferences. Tikhiy pointed out that her admission to Geneva is prohibited and should not take place. Matviyenko bears personal responsibility for the crime of aggression and all ensuing atrocities, supporting the use of Russian armed forces on the territory of Ukraine.
Tikhiy called on all conference participants to exclude the Russian representative from Matviyenko, whose image is stained with Ukrainian blood. He also confirmed that Ukraine is working on organizing the extradition of Matviyenko to The Hague, where the Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine will commence its work.
At the conference held on July 28, Matviyenko again expressed support for Russia's invasion of Ukraine, stating about the "criminal Kyiv regime" in Donbas. Switzerland, which has adhered to EU sanctions against Russia, does not prohibit the visit of members of international organizations that have a headquarters in Switzerland.
The Vice-Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Olena Kondratiuk, also expressed her opinion, calling the hypocritical provision of a platform for sanctioned Russians at the conference. She stressed that the participation of an aggressor in such events is unacceptable and called for active measures to support Ukraine at the international level.
