Emma Raducanu progressed to the second round of the Canadian Open, defeating Elena-Gabriela Ruse with a score of 6-2, 6-4. This victory continues her successful streak, as she also reached the semifinals in the previous tournament in Washington.
Raducanu, who is the first-ranked player from Great Britain, struggled at the start of the match when she faced pressure from Ruse, who created five break points during her first serve. However, Emma managed to maintain her serve and subsequently took control of the game, winning six games in a row in the first set.
In the second set, Raducanu again faced challenges, but she was able to regain the advantage, securing important points on Ruse's serve. After this, she calmly finished the match, which lasted one hour and thirty-seven minutes.
Raducanu's next opponent will be American Peyton Stearns, who is currently ranked 32nd in the world. After her victory in Montreal, Raducanu climbed to 33rd place in the WTA rankings.
The captain of the Billie Jean King Cup team, Ann Kiotavan, noted that Raducanu demonstrates "the right kind of tennis" ahead of the US Open, but also emphasized the need to remain injury-free. She believes that Emma has the potential to improve her game.
