- Sister Honkalves spoke against the agreement with the prosecution.
Aliva Honkalves, sister of the murder victim in Aydah, expressed herself at the court hearing, where the accused Brian Kohberger received four sufficient terms for the murder of her younger sister Kaili Honkalves and three other students of Aydah University. Kohberger, 30 years old, acknowledged his guilt and was sentenced on July 28, 2025.
Aliva stated that she was ready for arrest during her speech. She prepared her speech to avoid losing direct contact with Kohberger. "I knew that I had one chance, and I was gathering to use it to the maximum," she said.
Throughout her speech, Aliva referred to Kohberger as "experienced, pathetic, a hypocritical coward," who cut off the lives of innocent students. She emphasized that it was not an attack, Kaili could have given him a chance. Aliva also inquired about another instrument that was used during the attack, to which the evidence has not yet been provided.
Judge Steven Hippler during the hearing described the crime as "unprecedented evil." He noted that Kohberger did not provide any explanations for his motives. Aliva revealed that before the speech she had researched Kohberger to prepare for the meeting with him. She decided to omit some remarks, as she realized that in the room were the mother and sister of the accused.
Sister Honkalves previously expressed outrage regarding the agreement with the prosecution, which allowed Kohberger to avoid trial. They emphasized that they feel surrounded and demand justice.
