Anthropic Unveils New Rate Limits for Claude Code Users

The company Anthropic announced the introduction of new weekly limits for users of the Claude Code tool, which assists with programming. This decision was made after some subscribers used the service continuously, 24 hours a day, leading to system overloads.

The new limits will take effect on August 28, 2025, for users of the Pro and Max paid plans at $100 and $200 per month. Anthropic clarifies that the limits will affect less than 5% of subscribers, based on current usage patterns.

In addition, existing limits, which are set every five hours, will remain in effect. The company also stated that the new limits will include overall usage limits and specific ones for the Claude Opus 4 model. For Max plan users, there will be an option to purchase additional usage hours at standard API rates.

This step is a response to issues with service provision, as Claude Code has repeatedly caused partial or major outages in operation over the last month. Anthropic believes this is related to usage of the tool by certain users in a non-stop mode.

The company also noted that it is limited in resources due to the overall power capacity, which is a common problem for many AI providers. Other companies, such as Anysphere and Replit, are also reviewing their strategies to avoid abuse from powerful users.

Anthropic admitted that it plans to maintain ongoing support for occasional outages in the future, but emphasized that these new limits will help ensure reliable service in the short term.
