Gretsen Uolsh Wins First Individual Gold at World Championship

  • Gretsen Uolsh won gold in the 100 meters butterfly at the World Championship.
  • Sammer Makintosh also won gold in the 200 meters individual medley.
  • Both swimmers continue to compete in other disciplines.

Gretsen Uolsh earned a gold medal at the World Championship in water sports in Singapore, winning the final in the 100 meters butterfly with a time of 54.73 seconds. This victory made her the first individual champion at the world level.

Uolsh, a 22-year-old swimmer from Nashville, achieved this just after a debut following the introduction of the 4x100 meters freestyle relay, showing a wonderful performance. She managed to set a new world record, established in April, by only 0.13 seconds. This time became a record for the championship and the second-best result in history.

After her performance, Uolsh noted that she felt great pressure but managed to overcome the difficulties. "This race required a lot of strength from me," she said. She also confirmed that the US team faced challenges with the guest appearance of the coach during the training camp in Thailand.

At the same time, Canadian swimmer Sammer Makintosh won gold in the competition at 200 meters individual medley, becoming the first to break the barrier of 2:06 in these competitions. He plans to continue fighting for medals in upcoming disciplines.

Gretsen Uolsh will continue competing in other disciplines, including 50 meters freestyle and 100 meters freestyle, and has every chance for new medals. The championship will last until September 3.
