The ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia became effective on the night of July 28, 2025, following significant battles that lasted through the previous days. This agreement aims to stop the conflict that has been ongoing across the disputed territory along an 800-kilometer border between the countries.
Both sides agreed to a "mutual" ceasefire, which began on Monday. In recent days, as a result of the conflict, at least 38 people have been killed, and nearly 300,000 people have been forced to leave their homes.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that his participation contributed to achieving the ceasefire. According to him, he held negotiations with Thailand's Prime Minister, Prayuth Chan-o-cha, and Cambodia's Prime Minister, Hun Sen. Trump also noted that after the cessation of hostilities, negotiations regarding trade will be resumed.
It is planned that military commanders from both countries will meet on July 29, and on September 4, there will be a meeting of a joint committee for further reduction of tensions. The sides expressed hopes for the restoration of peace and security in the region.
According to the information from the UN, the Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, called on both countries to uphold the agreement and create conditions for resolving long-standing issues.
