Reyn Sandberg, a baseball star and Hall of Fame member, passed away at the age of 65. He died on Monday surrounded by family.
In January 2024, Sandberg announced his diagnosis - metastatic cancer. After chemotherapy and prolonged therapy, he informed in September 2024 that he was free of cancer. However, on December 10, he wrote on Instagram that the cancer returned and was spreading to other organs. This month, he stated that he continues to fight, cherishing every day spent with family and friends.
Sandberg was born in Spokan, Washington, and was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in 1978. He made his Major League Baseball debut in 1981, and in 1982 he was traded to Chicago. Over 15 years in Chicago, he accumulated 10 All-Star appearances and nine Gold Glove awards.
Sandberg was the National League MVP in 1984, playing a crucial role in leading Chicago to the playoffs. Later, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005, and the team also honored his contribution by retiring his number 23.
