Chicago Cubs Extend Contract with President Jed Hoyer
- Jed Hoyer has received a multi-year contract from the Chicago Cubs.
- The team has one of the best records in the National League.
- Hoyer plans to finalize new agreements before the trade deadline.
The Chicago Cubs have confirmed the extension of the contract with president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer for multiple years. This happened on July 28, 2025, ahead of an important series with the Milwaukee team.
51-year-old Hoyer began his career with the Cubs in 2011 as a general manager and became president in 2020. His previous contract was set to expire at the end of the season, which was his 14th with the team.
In a statement, Hoyer expressed gratitude to the Ricketts family for their trust and support, calling the Cubs "a unique organization with a wonderful fan base." He also noted that he intends to continue building a team that can compete for the championship.
Team president Tom Ricketts praised Hoyer for creating a strong organization with player development and for the team's demonstration of results, aiming to reach the playoffs. In 2025, the Cubs are expected to have one of the best records in the league – 62 wins and 43 losses, which highlights Hoyer's successful work.
Moreover, the extension of Hoyer's contract allows him more freedom for conducting trades before the deadline, including the Cubs potentially exploring the possibility of signing new pitchers.
