Two Israeli NGOs Accuse the Country of Genocide in Gaza
- Human rights organizations have accused Israel of genocide in Gaza.
- The Israeli government dismissed the accusations, calling them baseless.
- International attention to the humanitarian situation in Gaza is increasing.
Two Israeli human rights organizations, B'Tselem and Human Rights Watch, have accused the Israeli government of committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. These organizations have become the first significant voices in Israeli society to express such serious accusations.
At a press conference in Jerusalem, the activists reported that Israel is carrying out "coordinated, deliberate actions aimed at destroying Palestinian society." Executive Director of B'Tselem Yuli Novak noted that "the people of Gaza have been displaced, bombed, and starved, leaving them completely deprived of their rights."
In turn, the organization Human Rights Watch emphasized the focus on the destruction of health systems in Gaza, stating that "Israeli actions have destroyed Gaza's medical infrastructure."
In response to the accusations, a representative of the Israeli government referred to them as "baseless." Israel denies committing genocide, asserting that its actions are self-defense and that the perpetrators of the suffering of civilians are Hamas, which uses civilians as "human shields."
Since the beginning of the war in Gaza, which started after the attack by Hamas militants on Israeli communities on July 7, 2023, nearly 60,000 people have been killed in Gaza, mostly civilians. According to the data, the Israeli campaign has led to significant displacement and the relocation of more than the entire population of over two million people.
The accusations of genocide have particular significance in Israel due to the historical context related to the Holocaust. Earlier, when Amnesty International accused Israel of committing genocidal acts, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country referred to the organization as "hateful and fanatic."
Recently, international attention to the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza has increased, especially as the UN warns of a humanitarian catastrophe in the region. Israel, which controls all supplies to Gaza, claims it provides sufficient supplies, but the UN accuses it of not delivering from its distribution.
