Democratic Party Calls on Trump to Halt Funding for Humanitarian Aid in Gaza

  • Democrats are calling on Trump to stop funding the humanitarian organization.
  • Jordan is asking the U.S. for aid to deliver humanitarian assistance.
  • Trump promises the establishment of food centers in Gaza.

This is reported by ABC News, The Yomiuri Shimbun.

On September 21, a senator from the Democratic Party of the U.S. turned to Donald Trump with a demand to urgently stop funding the superfluous humanitarian organization in Gaza, which is accused of killing over 700 civilians during the ongoing conflict. In the list, mentioned by Senator Chris Van Hollen from Maryland and Peter Welch from Vermont, it is stated that the activities of the Gaza humanitarian aid fund violate norms established by the Geneva Conventions.

Along with the reports, civilians are often seen burning tires and drones while trying to obtain humanitarian supplies. Trump approved a grant of $30 million for the Gaza humanitarian aid fund in June, of which $7 million has already been allocated.

However, the launch of the program has been hindered by numerous victims. Jake Wood, founder of the fund, provided a statement, saying that they cannot adhere to humanitarian principles while working with this organization. According to the data from the UN, 766 people have died, while they strive to reach the distribution points of the fund.

Currently, Jordan has turned to the U.S. with a request for humanitarian aid to be delivered to Gaza, as the situation continues to worsen. Although Trump has expressed readiness to cooperate, his administration currently has no plans to support this initiative.

Trump also promised to create food centers in Gaza, but this initiative has sparked skepticism among many humanitarian organizations, which believe that this may be an ineffective method of delivering aid.

Moreover, recently Trump stated that many people in Gaza are suffering from hunger. In response to this, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denied the existence of hunger in Gaza, although he acknowledged that the situation is complex.

Democratic senators have also emphasized that the Gaza humanitarian aid fund does not adhere to standard control procedures, and they called for the suspension of support for existing mechanisms of aid under the UN's auspices.
