James Lee Curtis plans to retire from acting career

  • James Lee Curtis is preparing to retire from her acting career.
  • She expressed criticism towards the cosmetic industry.
  • In the new film Freakier Friday, she will appear alongside Lindsay Lohan.

James Lee Curtis announced her intention to retire from her acting career, citing her experience of how Hollywood has treated her parents after they achieved certain fame in their prime. In an interview with The Guardian, Curtis shared how difficult it was to observe how her parents, iconic actors Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, struggled for recognition in the industry. She noted that she saw their popularity diminish over time, which became a significant experience for her.

Curtis, who won an Oscar in 2023 for her role in Everything Everywhere All at Once, stated that she has long been preparing to step away from her acting profession. "I have been ready to retire for 30 years. I want to leave while I am still being invited," she remarked.

Curtis also shared her thoughts on the impact of the cosmetic industry on women, comparing it to "genocide." She emphasized that many women alter their appearance, which leads to the creation of artificial beauty.

In the new film Freakier Friday, which is a sequel to the classic 2003 film, she will appear alongside Lindsay Lohan. Curtis explained that the creation of the sequel was delayed due to Lohan needing to become old enough to have a teenager.

The film Freakier Friday will be released in theaters on August 8.
