France has called on the European Union to pressure Israel to reach a resolution regarding a two-state solution with Palestine. The French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, announced this at a high-level UN meeting taking place in New York.
Barrot emphasized the necessity for global action to support a political resolution of the conflict between Israel and Palestine, which has become urgent in light of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He called on Europe to express its expectations and find ways to encourage the Israeli government.
Recently, France announced its intention to recognize Palestine as a state at the upcoming meeting of the UN General Assembly in September. This decision is part of a broader effort aimed at resolving the conflict.
At the conference, jointly organized by Saudi Arabia and France, 125 countries were present, discussing pathways to revive the peace process. The French minister called for halting the construction of settlements on the West Bank and improving the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
The Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Faisal bin Farhan, also confirmed that normalization of relations with Israel could only be possible after the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. This position remains unchanged and is key to achieving lasting peace in the region.
