There is an increasing likelihood of a meeting between the presidents of Ukraine and Russia, especially since U.S. President Donald Trump expresses his dissatisfaction with the delay in negotiations with Russia. This was stated by the first deputy minister of foreign affairs Sergey Kislytsya in a comment for Ukrinform.
Kislytsya noted that he cannot comment on the words of the Turkish foreign minister regarding a possible meeting, as he does not know the context in which they were said. He believes that Moscow is aware that Washington's patience is wearing thin. "One cannot play games with the President of the USA," he emphasized.
The diplomat also indicated that during the first meeting of the delegations in Istanbul, the topic of a meeting of the leaders was raised, and the Russian side did not refuse the possibility of such a meeting. However, the Russian delegation stated that for the meeting to happen, they need to fulfill their demands.
Kislytsya emphasized that the Russian side is trying to create an infrastructure for endless negotiations instead of genuinely resolving the issue of ending the war. He also noted that in Washington they are already aware that the situation is critical, as every day there are shellings and people are killed.
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky also commented on the situation, stressing that Russia is doing everything possible to disrupt peace efforts. He emphasized that sanctions are a key element for achieving peace, and Ukraine is ready to work with the USA to achieve a lasting and sustainable peace.
At the same time, Dmitry Medvedev, the deputy head of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, stated that Trump is pushing for war, playing a game with ultimatums. He noted that each new ultimatum is a threat that could lead to war, not only between Russia and Ukraine but also involving the entire USA.
