As a result of the airstrike by Russian forces on July 28, 2025, on the Bilenka correctional colony in the Zaporizhzhia region, 16 prisoners were killed, and 44 individuals were injured and hospitalized. This was reported by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine on its official Facebook page.

During the attack, four guided bombs were used. As a result of this, the facility was destroyed, and the administrative premises and quarantine zone suffered partial damage. Earlier, reports indicated 17 dead and 42 injured.

The Ministry of Justice stated that information about the victims is being continuously updated. It is also reported that nearly 50 employees of the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine ensured order in the colony during the incident, while the perimeter of the facility was not breached.

The ministry emphasized that the obstruction of civilian infrastructure, including penitentiary institutions, is considered a war crime.
