Nigeria has won its 10th title at the Africa Women Cup of Nations (Wafcon), defeating the Moroccan team with a score of 3-2 in the final, which took place on July 27, 2025, in Rabat. This victory was the result of a dramatic comeback, as the team was trailing 0-2 at the start of the second half.

The coach of Nigeria, Justine Madugu, was appointed to his position last year, and his strategy proved successful. Despite criticism of the team's performance in the group stage, the Nigerian footballers demonstrated resilience, coming back to win in the final.

The president of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, began the celebrations at the victory reception, promising each player a reward of 100,000 US dollars and a three-bedroom apartment. This gesture received positive feedback from the players, although in the past there have been instances where promised rewards were not paid out.

At the championship, Nigeria established its dominance in African women's football, winning 10 out of 13 tournaments since their inception in 1998. At the same time, rivals such as Equatorial Guinea and South Africa have only managed to win two titles each.

The final, which took place in Rabat, marked a significant increase in the level of competition in women's football in Africa, yet organizers, including the African Football Confederation, continue to face criticism regarding the organization of the tournament and payment issues for players.
