India has become the largest exporter of smartphones to the USA

  • India has become the largest supplier of smartphones to the USA for the first time.
  • India's share in supplies increased to 44%, while China's dropped to 25%.
  • Apple is ramping up production in India due to changes in US tariff policy.

India has surpassed China, becoming the largest supplier of smartphones to the USA. According to Canalys data, India's share in smartphone supplies to the USA in the second quarter of 2025 reached 44%, which is a significant increase from 13% compared to the same period last year.

The volume of smartphone production in India has increased by 240% year-on-year. At the same time, the share of imports from China has decreased to 25%, down from 61% last year. This shift is associated with the transition of iPhone production to India, which has become possible due to changes in US tariff policy.

According to Canalys analysts, the leadership change in the market was due to the active relocation of iPhone production to India. Apple has significantly increased its manufacturing capabilities in India to meet the demand in the American market. While smartphones and other electronics that are made locally do not fall under the highest tariffs, Apple still relies on its manufacturing bases in China.

The situation in the smartphone market remains complex, as demand for them remains weak, and despite the increase in supplies, the market is expected to grow only by 1% in 2025. The reorientation of production to India and Vietnam, in particular, reflects a broader trend towards diversifying supply chains, which emerged against the backdrop of tensions between the USA and China.
