Iñaki Williams writes that he has become the first Black captain of Athletic Bilbao. The 31-year-old player, who represents the national team of Ghana, has taken on this role for the 2025 season. Williams noted that his appointment comes at a time when the popularity of extreme right-wing ideologies is increasing.

Both brothers, Iñaki and his younger brother Nico, were born in Bilbao to parents from Ghana. Williams emphasized that this means a lot to them, as they represent immigrants who strive for a better life. He believes it is important to continue working on breaking down barriers in society.

Nico, who is also a player for Athletic, recently extended his contract with the club, despite feelings of interest from Barcelona. Iñaki expressed support for his brother's decision to stay at the club, stating that it allows them to play together and remain closer to family.

Athletic finished last season in fourth place in La Liga and is preparing to participate in the Champions League this season.
