London (AP) — Indian author Kiran Desai, who won the Booker Prize in 2006, is once again nominated for the prestigious award for her long-awaited novel. Her new book "The Inheritance of Loss" is one of the 13 books shortlisted in the longlist, which is announced in the shortlist for a total of £50,000 ($67,000).

This novel, which spans 677 pages, tells the story of two young Indians struggling to find their place in the USA. This is Desai's first novel since "The Inheritance of Loss," which won her the Booker Prize.

Among other nominees are writers from nine countries, including David Szalay and Andrew Miller, who have also been finalists before. Tash Aw, who has already been shortlisted twice, becomes the first Malaysian to win with the novel "The Harmony Silk Factory."

The longlist also features five British authors: Miller, Szalay, Natasha Brown, Jonathan Buckley, and Benjamin Wood. Among American authors are Susan Choi, Keti Kitamura, and Ben Marcus.

Included in the list is also "The Unseen" by Albanian-American writer Ledija Hoga, "The Forms of Love" by Trinidadian author Claire Adam, and "Endling" — the debut novel of Canadian-Ukrainian writer Maria Revy, which tells the story of three women and a disappearing raccoon.

Head juror Roddy Doyle noted that all selected novels explore identity and are compelling. This year’s list of nominees has emerged as the most international in the last decade.

The finalists will be announced on September 23, and the winner will be revealed on November 10 at a ceremony in London.
