The Taliban Sends Afghan Workers to Qatar to Combat Unemployment

  • A registration has been opened for 2,000 Afghan workers in Qatar.
  • The program is aimed at reducing unemployment and providing economic support.
  • The Taliban plans to send workers to other countries as well.

ISLAMABAD — The Taliban has launched a program to export Afghan workers to Qatar to reduce unemployment in Afghanistan. Registration for 2,000 qualified specialists in the fields of hospitality, food industry, and engineering started on July 29. Applications can be submitted by candidates from all 34 provinces of Afghanistan.

This initiative was announced against the backdrop of millions of Afghans from neighboring countries, including Iran and Pakistan, in the context of an economic crisis. The involvement of international organizations is being expedited, and this creates additional pressure on local services.

Labor Minister Abdul Manan Omari characterized this program as "a significant step," stating the intention to also send workers to Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman, Turkey, and Russia.

The Taliban also emphasized the importance of protecting the rights of Afghan workers abroad to prevent illegal migration. The deputy prime minister of the Taliban, Abdul Ghani Baradar, noted that the program helps improve the economic situation in the country through remittances from labor migrants.

Qatar, which has diplomatic ties with Kabul, has become an important center for Afghans seeking to escape the Taliban regime. This country has also served as a mediator for peace talks between the Taliban and the USA.

The Taliban is working to lower the unemployment rate in Afghanistan through foreign investments, expanding trade links, and infrastructure projects over the past four years.
