Great Britain recognizes Palestine in the autumn, stating that there will be no ceasefire
- Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced the recognition of Palestine in the autumn.
- Great Britain is under pressure from the party and international community.
- Israel is obliged to achieve a ceasefire to allow for the recognition.
Prime Minister of Great Britain Keir Starmer stated that the country recognizes the state of Palestine in autumn, as Israel has not achieved a ceasefire in Gaza. This decision has become a consequence of the "increasingly intolerable" situation in the region.
Starmer called for an extraordinary cabinet meeting to discuss the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the possibility of achieving peace. The government has increased support for the idea of recognizing Palestine, on the background of pressure from parliament and international partners.
The recognition of the state of Palestine will take place before the General Assembly of the UN, which the Israeli government has not yet taken substantial measures to improve the situation in Gaza, not achieving a ceasefire and not confirming the absence of annexation of the West Bank.
Starmer also held talks with US President Donald Trump, who expressed support for Great Britain in this matter. Britain is working on a plan to achieve peace in cooperation with France and Germany, after which countries will seek to find joint solutions for the resolution of the conflict.
Great Britain supports the idea of an independent Palestine alongside Israel, but has previously stated that recognition must be part of negotiations between the two states. Pressure on the government is increasing, as public opinion in the country becomes increasingly favorable to the recognition of Palestine.
