Elgato has introduced a new 4K webcam with the ability to change filters
- The 4K Facecam supports 49-mm filters for various effects
- The camera has 4K resolution capability and records at 60fps
- Compatible with Elgato Prompter and Nintendo Switch 2
This is reported by The Verge, Engadget.
Elgato is launching its new Facecam 4K webcam, which offers 4K resolution capability and records at a frame rate of 60 frames per second for a price of $199.99. This model is $100 cheaper than the Facecam Pro and is the first webcam in history to support additional filters.
The 4K Facecam is compatible with any 49-mm filter, allowing users to apply cinematic effects, such as diffusion or reduce reflections from surroundings using a circular polarizing (CPL) filter. Elgato offers a free CPL filter for order through their store, and also a cap for privacy, which fits just like a lens cap on a DSLR camera.
The webcam features a Sony Starvis 2 CMOS sensor with an aperture of f/4.0 and fixed focus. The Facecam 4K allows recording video in 4K at a frame rate of up to 60 frames per second or in 4K at 30 frames per second with built-in HDR. It connects via USB-C and weighs 112 grams without a mount for a monitor and cable.
The Facecam 4K also works with Elgato's Camera Hub software, which allows manual adjustments of ISO, exposure, shutter speed, and also allows for panning, tilting, and zooming to achieve the ideal shot. Users can save these settings in the camera's memory, which means they do not have to keep the Camera Hub open. If you have an Nvidia RTX graphics card, you can also achieve enhanced depth of field effects with background blur.
The Facecam 4K is also compatible with the new Elgato Prompter equipment, for which a new task panel will be available. Elgato provides new panels with the new Prompter purchases, replacing the existing Facecam Pro panel. This way, the Facecam 4K can potentially replace the Facecam Pro at a lower price point.
This webcam will also work with the Nintendo Switch 2, provided it has updated firmware to version 2.32 or later. The Facecam 4K is already available for $199.99 in the USA, £179.99 in Great Britain, and €199.99 in Europe.
