Maxwell is ready to testify before Congress under conditions
- Ghislaine Maxwell proposes to testify before Congress under conditions.
- Lawyers demand immunity and the conduct of an interview outside the venue.
- The oversight committee rejected the proposal for immunity.
Ghislaine Maxwell, who was convicted for sexual exploitation, proposed to testify before the U.S. Congress, but with important conditions. According to the statement, her lawyers sent demands to the oversight committee to present representatives.
The committee invited Maxwell to testify next month. Lawyers noted that she is ready to cooperate "as long as a fair and safe path forward is established."
Among the conditions, Maxwell is requesting formal immunity, as well as conducting the interview not in the place where she is serving a 20-year term.
If her demands are not met, Maxwell "will have no other choice but to assert her rights to appeal," her lawyers stated.
In the letter, it is also stated that she will be ready to testify "in public format, as long as she receives permission from President Donald Trump."
Simultaneously, the idea of granting Maxwell immunity was quickly rejected by the oversight committee. The committee representative stated that they will not discuss the possibility of granting congressional immunity for her testimony.
This comes after Maxwell filed an appeal to the Supreme Court with the aim of overturning her conviction for sexual abuse of minors.
