Overview of the famine in Gaza following statements by Trump and Green

  • Trump supported additional aid to Gaza amid the famine conditions.
  • Green referred to the famine in Gaza as "genocide," which sparked criticism.
  • Republicans were divided in their thoughts regarding aid for Gaza.

President of the United States Donald Trump called for additional aid for Gaza, where, according to reports, children are starving. His statement sparked divisions within the Republican Party and superiority with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who asserts that there is no famine in Gaza.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, who supports the "America First" policy, labeled the situation in Gaza as "genocide." She criticized her fellow Republican, Randy Fine, for his comments about Gaza supposedly "famine-ing" due to the expulsion of the guarantors, maintained by Hamas.

Green stressed that her colleague is causing harm to the image of Jews, including the starving innocent people and children. She noted that the situation in Gaza, which has been ongoing since the terror attack on July 7, 2023, is horrific and requires immediate humanitarian response.

Trump, in turn, during a meeting with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, acknowledged that there is a "real famine" in Gaza. He also stated that the USA will work with other countries to provide aid.

Regardless of the statements about aid, many Republicans believe that any assistance should be conditional on the expulsion of the guarantors. Senator Lindsey Graham denied the existence of genocide in Gaza, pointing out that Hamas bears the responsibility for the humanitarian crisis. Others, like Senator Ron Johnson, believe that solving the problem should remain with the governments of other countries.

Democrats in Congress, meanwhile, are calling for an expansion of humanitarian aid for the residents of Gaza. Forty senators have signed a letter to Trump’s administration demanding an increase in aid and the restoration of diplomatic ties for achieving a ceasefire.
