Opera has filed an antitrust complaint against Microsoft in Brazil, claiming that the company creates unfair conditions for the competition of alternative browsers with Edge. Opera states that Microsoft's agreements regarding the pre-installation of Edge on Windows computers hinder competition.

According to the statement by Aaron MacParland, legal advisor of Opera, Microsoft uses "manipulative design methods" to prevent users from downloading and using alternative browsers. The company demands from the Brazilian Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) to take action against Microsoft.

Opera has already had conflicts with Microsoft earlier, including a complaint in the EU in 2007, where it was confirmed that the bundling of Internet Explorer was anti-competitive. In 2024, Opera also aimed to obtain the status of "gatekeeper" for Edge in accordance with the EU Digital Markets Act.
