In Nebraska, in the city of Fremont, an explosion occurred at the Horizon Biofuels factory, which produces animal feed pellets and by-products for livestock. The incident took place on Thursday, July 29, 2025, around noon. According to Fremont Mayor, Jody Spellerberg, three individuals remain unaccounted for, as rescuers are unable to access the site due to heavy smoke and fire.
The first responders who arrived at the scene were overwhelmed by the large amount of smoke and debris. Fremont Fire Chief Todd Bernt stated that the structure of the building sustained significant damage, obstructing access to the premises. "We were able to gain access, but due to the collapse of the structure, it turned out to be impossible," he added.
The fire is still active, especially in the area of the factory. Bernt reported that rescuers will remain on-site for several days. The Nebraska government and other agencies are providing support in addressing the situation, and investigations into the cause of the explosion are also being conducted.
The Mayor of Fremont stated that public safety is a priority, and all resources are focused on controlling the situation. Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen is also monitoring the developments and expressed readiness to provide assistance.
