On July 29, 2025, following a mass shooting at the NFL building at 345 Park Avenue in New York, the league temporarily closes its office. As a result of the attack, four individuals were killed, including a police officer and an NFL employee who was injured.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced that employees would need to work remotely until August 8. He indicated he would not return to the office until it is confirmed that the building is ready for reopening.
According to police information, the shooter, 27-year-old Shane Devin Tamura, opened fire in the lobby of the building after previously being removed from the 33rd floor. He left a recording in which he criticized the NFL for its handling of safety concerns related to football and urged to analyze his brain for signs of CTE.
Among the deceased was a police officer, the acting director of Blackstone, and a building security guard. The NFL announced support for the families of the victims. Goodell also mentioned that the league will hold a virtual meeting to support its employees during this difficult time.
