A strong earthquake has struck near Russia

After a strong earthquake near Russia, a warning about tsunamis has been issued.
The tsunami warning applies to Japan, Hawaii, and Alaska.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located about 136 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, a tsunami warning was issued for the Aleutian Islands, Japan, and Russia after a magnitude 8.0 earthquake struck near the Kamchatka Peninsula. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake's epicenter was located approximately 136 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 19 km, which increases the risk of generating hazardous waves. The tsunami warning also applies to the Hawaiian Islands and parts of the Aleutian Islands of Alaska.

In Japan, the tsunami warning is spreading along the coastal regions from Hokkaido to Kyushu, where authorities have urged residents to evacuate to higher ground.
