Details of the shooting in Manhattan and calls for gun control reform

  • A shooting in Manhattan claimed the lives of four people.
  • The shooter aimed to target the NFL offices, but was distracted by the elevator.
  • New York City Mayor Eric Adams called for gun control reform.

This is reported by ABC News, Global Times.

On Monday, July 29, 2025, a shooting occurred in an office building in Manhattan, resulting in the deaths of four people, while one person was injured. Mayor of New York Eric Adams described the incident as "a deliberate, horrific, hate-fueled act of violence."

Along with Adams, the shooter, 27-year-old Shane Tamura, arrived from Nevada and, allegedly, intended to target the offices of the National Football League (NFL), but did not make it to that floor. After the shooting in the lobby of the building, the shooter opened fire, killing several people and injuring one of the NFL employees.

Among the deceased were employees of Blackstone, NYPD, and a security guard. One of the witnesses, Jessica Chen, revealed that she and others were attending a conference when they heard the shots.

Adams stressed that security measures in buildings, including the presence of armed security and protocols for responding to shooting incidents, should help prevent even more casualties. He also called for stricter measures to control guns in the USA.

President Donald Trump expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and emphasized the importance of investigating this tragic incident, which, according to him, is a senseless act of violence.

Currently, detectives are working on gathering details of the incident, including the shooter's background, which may help identify the shooter.
