Britain Plans to Recognize the State of Palestine in September
- Great Britain plans to recognize Palestine in September.
- The statement has drawn criticism from Israel and support from France.
- The situation in Gaza remains critical with a high number of casualties.
Great Britain intends to recognize the state of Palestine in September, which Israel does not consider a step to prevent violence in Gaza. This was stated by Prime Minister Keir Starmer at an extraordinary cabinet meeting on July 30, 2025.
Starmer emphasized that Israel should be inclined to prevent violence and allow unhindered access for humanitarian aid to Gaza in the coming two months. He also referred to a long-term peace and the restoration of perspectives for both states.
Starmer's statement has provoked sharp criticism from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who asserts that this could encourage terrorism from Hamas. Netanyahu noted that "support for terrorists always leads to violence."
British politicians and charitable organizations expressed concern that the recognition of Palestine could be used as a "bargaining chip" in negotiations with Israel.
At the same time, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Great Britain David Lammy stated that this decision aims to improve the humanitarian situation in the region. Lammy emphasized the necessity of preventing violence and restoring the supply of medical goods to Gaza.
In September, there are also plans to recognize Palestine by France during the session of the UN General Assembly. The French Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barot stated that this joint decision aims to prevent a vicious cycle of violence in the region.
Since the beginning of the conflict in July 2023, over 60,000 people have been killed in Gaza, which has triggered international concern regarding the humanitarian situation in the region.
