U.S. Senator Calls for Immediate Vote on Sanctions Against Russia

  • Senator Blumenthal demands an expedited vote on sanctions.
  • Trump shortened the timeline for Putin to 10 days to end the war.
  • The sanctions bill should demonstrate unity between the U.S. and Ukraine.

This was reported by RBC Ukraine, Ukrayinska Pravda.

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal emphasized the necessity of an expedited vote on the sanctions bill against Russia, stating that Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin does not deserve additional time. He noted that the actions of U.S. President Donald Trump should guide the correct direction, asserting that sanctions should be "at 500%, not just at 100%."

Blumenthal called for a quorum moment for the vote, as there are already 85 members in the Senate, and it is possible to secure 90 votes if needed. He argued that a vote is a sufficient and necessary method that demonstrates unity between the executive and legislative branches of government.

The senator also highlighted the importance of legislative initiatives to show that the U.S. fulfills its obligations to Ukraine. He noted that the sanctions bill helps "stop the war" and that "Putin should understand this clearly."

Earlier, on July 28, Trump announced that he gave Putin 10-12 days to end the war in Ukraine. This changed his previous deadline from 50 days, which he set at the beginning of July, hinting at possible secondary tariffs for buyers of Russian raw materials.
