Asian stocks rise after US-China trade talks

  • Asian stocks have increased after the conclusion of US-China trade talks.
  • Trade negotiations ended without an agreement.
  • New economic data is expected on the market.

This is reported by NBC News, The Yomiuri Shimbun.

AP — Asian stocks primarily rose in the aftermath of the US and China concluding another round of trade negotiations without an agreement. US stock futures rose, while oil prices decreased.

The main trade representative of China stated that during two days of negotiations in Stockholm, Sweden, the US and China agreed to extend the deadline for the introduction of new tariffs from September 12 to one another. However, US representatives indicated that a decision on the extension had not been accepted.

US trade representative Jameson Greer noted that the US team would return to Washington to discuss the extension issue with the president.

There is a deadline approaching on Friday for many of the tariffs imposed by Trump on other countries. Several economic data releases are also anticipated, including the latest data on the labor market.

"Markets were under the influence of optimism regarding trade, but now this emotional rise is losing strength," said Stephen Innes of SPI Asset Management.

The Hong Kong Hang Seng Index fell by 0.3% to 25,441.64, while the Shanghai Composite Index rose by 0.5% to 3,628.53. The Tokyo Nikkei 225 index increased by less than 0.1% to 40,687.17.

In Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 index rose by 0.6% to 8,759.20, while the South Korean Kospi index increased by 0.9% to 3,259.00.

In US pre-market trading, stocks retreated from record levels as Wall Street began an active week. The S&P 500 fell by 0.3% to 6,370.86, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped by 0.5% to 44,632.99.

Oil prices also changed: American crude rose by 7 cents to $69.28 per barrel, while international Brent increased by 13 cents to $71.82 per barrel.

The dollar fell to 148.13 yen from 148.48 yen, while the euro rose to $1.1554 from $1.1546.
