In northern Pakistan, rescuers, including local climbers and porters, have resumed efforts to rescue Laura Dahlmeier, a German Olympic champion who sustained serious injuries during her ascent to the peak of Laila. The incident occurred on July 28 at an altitude of about 5,700 meters. Dahlmeier, who was in a pair with climber Marino Evoy, suffered from the rockfall.
The rescue operation is hampered by adverse weather conditions. Military helicopters are ready to take off, but cannot fly due to low visibility and rain. Dahlmeier, 31, was informed that her partner was forced to descend to base camp and sent a signal for help.
The head of the Pakistan Alpine Club, Karrar Haidri, reported that Dahlmeier's condition remains unchanged, but she has access to oxygen. Rescuers are trying to deliver essential supplies to reach her.
Local authorities have initiated the rescue operation after receiving a distress signal. During the previous season, numerous incidents of rescues in Pakistan have been recorded, which led to the deaths of many tourists.
